Washington Oxi Day Foundation Honors Greek, American and Greek-American Veterans

— Admiral James Stavridis Delivers Keynote at Ceremony at National WWII Memorial —

 

WASHINGTON, DC, November 11, 2014 — For the fourth consecutive year, the Washington Oxi Day Foundation has honored a Greek, and American and a Greek-American WWII veteran with the Greatest Generation Award at a very moving ceremony at the National WWII Memorial in Washington, DC.

Former Supreme Allied Commander of NATO Global Operations, Admiral James Stavridis, delivered the keynote address at this ceremony on October 23, 2014.  He was introduced by the 2013 keynote speaker and Washington Oxi Day Foundation Advisory Board Member, James Chanos.

The Greek-American WWII Veterans honored were Nicholas J. and Sam Bouras (posthumously).  The were introduced by former Senator Paul Sarbanes and their award was accepted by William Crane, trustee of the Nicholas J. and Anna K. Bouras Foundation.  The American WWII Veteran honored was the oldest Member of Congress in US history, Congressman Ralph Hall.  His award was accepted by his son, The Honorable Judge Brett Hall.  The Greek WWII Veteran honored was Admiral Ioannis Toumbas.  He was introduced by the Greek Embassy’s Naval Attache Captain Pavlos Panagiotopoulos and his award was accepted by Greek Embassy’s Defense Attaché Colonel Evangelos Papadopoulos.

Wreath Laying Ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery Tomb of The Unknown Solider

On October 24, 2014, a wreath laying ceremony to honor those who lost their life on Oxi Day and the battles that followed was held at Arlington National Cemetery at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.  The wealth was laid by the Greek Embassy’s Defense Attaché Colonel Evangelos Papadopoulos, the Ambassador of Cyprus to the United States George Chacalli, Washington Oxi Day Foundation President Andy Manatos and Michael Psaros.
